There are many uses for spearmint oil, and a key element to include in various food, perfume, aroma, and homeopathic medicine recipes. It has been studied for it's beneficial effects on the digestive system, and has been noted by many as having a calming aroma effect. Unlike peppermint extracts, spearmint is sweeter, and contains minute amounts of menthol and menthone, which provides its strong aromatic smell as well as aids in the skin for various treatments. Recently, it has been suggested that spearmint offers a hormonal balancing aspect, that some us to treat hirsutism, and other anti-androgenic needs.
Spearmint can also be used for cooking, as it provides a strong mint flavor to drinks and foods, but is often sweeter than pure peppermint, or mint leaves. Spearmint is often mixed with carrier oils and utilized for massage oils, or mixed with alcohol and other essential oils for whole room air fresheners.
