Coconut Oil, Extra Virgin Organic, is known for its many uses in the food, cosmetic, and nutritional supplement industries. Due to its high content of saturated fatty acids, extra virgin organic coconut oil is highly resistant to rancidity. Coconut oil is solid below 76F and liquid above.
Common Use: Produced from 100% fresh and matured coconuts. Coconut oil is preferred for direct use as an emollient on the skin and hair or for its ability to impart lather to other oils in cold-processed, liquid castile soapslip balms, body oil, lotions, hair products and more. It reduces dryness by locking in moisture. It also removes impurities and helps soothes irritated skin. Coconut Oil provides a protective barrier, helping shield skin from environmental toxins, dirt, and other stuff on the face daily.
What is the difference between Unrefined Organic Coconut Oil and Refined Organic Coconut oil? Unrefined organic coconut oil is minimally processed without bleach or other chemicals. It remains unhydrogenated and uses fresh coconut meat as opposed to dried as a starting point. This form of oil retains the aroma and flavor of the coconut. It's the most commonly available form as well as the healthiest option.
Refined coconut oil uses dried coconut meat, called copra, as a starting ingredient. Because the copra drying process is unsanitary, the meat must undergo a rigorous sanitation process which includes bleaching, exposure to high heat, and the use of sodium hydroxide to create a long shelf life. In addition, refined coconut oil is often hydrogenated.
