Rosemary Essential Oil for Brittle, Dull Hair and Hair Loss

Rosemary Essential Oil has been used to promote hair growth and is said to have benefits such as anti-inflammatory properties, anti-bacterial, promote nerve growth, and improve circulation. As a result of improved circulation to the scalp, Rosemary Essential Oil could prevent hair follicles from being starved of blood supply, dying off, and leading to hair loss. Did you know research has shown that Rosemary has the ability to inhibit DHT (Dihydrotestosterone)? DHT is an androgen produced as a byproduct of testosterone, responsible for a variety of functions, and has a connection to hair loss. DHT is said to attack the hair follicles and lead to hair loss.

Simple ways to use Rosemary Essential Oil for Hair Care:

  1. Mix it directly in your shampoo and conditioners, add about 5 drops per ounce. Another way is to add 2 to 3 drops to any leave-in product just prior to application.
  2. Massage Rosemary Essential Oil directly to the scalp. Mix 5 drops of Rosemary EO with a carrier oil like organic coconut oil, Moroccan argan oil, or pumpkin seed oil (also shown to halt DHT effects). This can be rinsed off or used as a leave-in treatment.
  3. Make a DIY Hot oil treatment. Again, choose a preferred carrier oil and mix 5 drops of Rosemary EO. Heat the oil mixture and apply it to hair. Leave in for about 20 to 30 minutes before rinsing.

Fun fact: Rosemary belongs to the mint family, which also includes basil, lavender, and sage. Learn more about Aromatherapy & Carrier Oils by reading our Blog's Aromatherapy Column, following us on twitter, instagram & pinterest. We post new content daily.
