Tangerine (Citrus reticulata) essential oil is a delightful alternative Orange essential Oil, has a lighter and sweeter aroma when used in a blend. The tangerine tree is actually the American variety of the East Asian Mandarin. Some experts would say their scents are interchangeable. While others find the aromas different from each other with Mandarin being the more bitter of the two, comparing Mandarin as mix between orange and grapefruit. Properties: Tangerine essential oil contains sedative properties that are calming to the nervous system, helping with stress and naturally aiding with sleep. Other therapeutic properties include antiseptic, antispasmodic, cytophylactic (encourages the growth of skin cells), depurative, stomachic, and tonic. Helps improve circulation, maintain oil and moisture balance in the skin and shows emollient properties too. It also eases constipation and treats diarrhea, flatulence, rashes, dryness and cracking of the skin, hair problems and dandruff.
Uses/Benefits: Acne, congested and oily skin, constipation, dyspepsia, fluid retention, hiccoughs, indigestion, insomnia, intestinal problems, nervous tension, obesity, restlessness, scars cellulite, and stretch marks. Can be applied topically (diluted) to treat stiff and painful joints as well as severe muscle cramps, and muscle spasms. Ancient Chinese medicine used Tangerine (mandarin) oil to cure fever and convulsions caused by increase temperatures. Tangerine essential oil has been used to ease asthma, chest congestion, dry cough and other respiratory problems. Uses: bath and body products, facial care, diffuser, massage, perfume, colognes, and body spray, room spray.
Blends well with: other citrus oils such as orange, lemon, bergamot, and grapefruit, as well as spice oils for example cinnamon, basil, nutmeg, black pepper, ginger, and clove. Also blends well with lavender, geranium, chamomile, and ylang ylang.
Caution: As with other citrus oils, tangerine essential oils should not be applied to the skin before sun exposure.
