What is High-Oleic Sunflower Oil?

High-oleic sunflower oil is a non-hydrogenated version of regular sunflower oil. This Organic, High Oleic Sunflower Oil contains linoleic acid, oleic acid, lecithin, carotenoids and has a high Vitamin E content. According to the National Sunflower Association, this variety of sunflower oil is high in oleic or monounsaturated acids. The association states that a study has found a diet that contains a large amount of oleic acids can lower LDL (bad) cholesterol levels and contribute to a heart-healthy lifestyle. Oleic acid acts as an emulsifier, surfactant, thickening agent and emollient. High Oleic Sunflower Oil has at least 80% oleic acid.

Vitamin E: Besides being a good source of healthy fat, the National Sunflower Association states that all three varieties of the Sunflower oil contain more vitamin E than any other type of vegetable oil.  According to NutritionData.com, one teaspoon of sunflower oil has 5.5 milligrams (28 percent of the needed daily value) of vitamin E. Vitamin E is an antioxidant that prevents damage to human cells.

Healthy Skin: Sunflower oil provides protection for the skin as it can be easily absorbed. It offers a protective coating that can help prevent infection and inflammation, especially in newborns with underdeveloped skin. Studies were conducted by researchers from the Johns Hopkins University between 1998 and 2003 in Bangladesh which suggest that sunflower oil can protect premature babies from bacterial infections when rubbed onto their skin several times daily. Sunflower oil can also be applied to the face and neck to treat and prevent acne breakouts. Skin care products, such as body wash, cleansers, and moisturizers often contain sunflower oil because of its natural power to retain skin moisture.
