Clove Leaf Pure Essential Oil
Clove Leaf Essential Oil
The word clove comes from the Latin word clavus meaning ‘nail’ (clou in French and clavo in Spanish)due to the fact the buds vaguely resemble small uneven nails in their shape. Clove was at one point one of the world’s most valuable and expensive commodities in spice trade and used for in perfumes, mulled liqueurs and wines, love potions, and dental care. During the 17th and 18th century in Europe, cloves were worth their weight in gold due to importation costs. An example of the clove’s value; is Magellan’s fateful voyage (1519-1522). Although the voyage started with five ships and more 270 men, and nevertheless returned with only one ship and less forty men it was considered a financial success due the spices of clove and cinnamon. In fact in Cape Verde, 13 were abandoned in fear of losing 26 tons of spices. Flash Point: 200F
